The Trinamool Congress on Friday announced a key organisational change, appointing senior leader and minister Chandrima Bhattacharya as the new Chairperson of the party’s Legal Cell. She replaces Malay Ghatak, who has been removed from the post. The announcement was made through an official statement released by the party.
Chandrima Bhattacharya is currently serving as the Minister of State for Finance and Home Affairs in the West Bengal government. She is also the president of the party’s women’s wing. A practising lawyer, she previously served as the state’s Law Minister for four years. With this appointment, she will now oversee the party’s legal matters in addition to her existing roles.
According to the party’s statement, the decision is part of an internal restructuring of responsibilities. Bhattacharya has also represented the party in various important legal matters at the national level. No official reason was cited for Malay Ghatak’s removal.
